[Review] Golden Child – [Take A Leap]

Golden Child is back with their 4th Mini-Album ‘[Take A Leap]’. This is their first comeback since their participation in the very popular survival show Road To Kingdom. Their performances in the show were incredible and made this group earn a lot more recognition from international fans.

We are excited to see what is next for this very talented boy group under Woollim Entertainment. For now, let’s dig into the music this mini-album brings.

[Take A Leap]

Take Off’ is the intro track for this release, with elements similar to the intro of a movie. This electronic track with heavy tunes leaves a strong first impression for sure. Its transition to the title track for this mini-album ‘ONE(Lucid Dream)’ is flawless and unnoticeable, making a great surprise to listeners when the vocals start.

ONE(Lucid Dream)’ has a fantastic vocal flow to it, I really liked the direction Golden Child took with this song, it is heavily EDM inspired but it also has some R&B/Urban influences (particularly in the chorus) that work fantastically with the members’ voices and rapping, and the overall flow of this song.

The music video is intense with the effects and cinematography and also displays some great visuals of the members, you can watch it below.

With a more playful and happy vibe ‘OMG’ starts. It is the perfect summer track with upbeat beats, and a flow that will put a smile on your face just with the rhythm and vocals.

Emotional whiplash starts with the ballad ‘Moment’, the delivery of lyrics this track is emotional and heartfelt, the Golden Child members nailed it in every second of this track. An absolute gem.

Make Me Love’ has a lower tempo urban pop style with an extremely chill and cool flow, Golden Child’s rapline did a fantastic job in this track and I felt like they totally owned this song.

Following a similar style ‘H.E.R’ starts on the pop side mixing between a delivery that at times feels like an up-beat ballad and in other sections feels like a pop single making this track a very cool mix.

Closing the mini-album ‘Pass Me By’ starts, this track has a wonderful and stunning orchestration that enhances the vocals of the members. It’s a genius and memorable end for a release that showcases different sides of this idol group.
