[Review] Forecasting Love and Weather

For this week’s drama review we are talking about a production that mixes weather and also office romance, let’s talk about the 2022 production ‘Forecasting Love and Weather’.

The Plot

The drama was directed by Cha Young-hoon, written by Seon Yeong, and created by Kang Eun-Kyung. ‘Forecasting Love and Weather’ tells the story of how a romance develops between two co-workers, and how they have to overcome their own hardships and try to make their relationship work.

Jin Ha-kyung (Park Min-young) works as the general forecaster in the Korean Meteorological Administration. She is well- known for being smart, reliable and calm, however, she gets involved in drama after her fiance (Han Ki-joon played by Yoon Park) cheats on her with a reporter who works in the same building as them.

After the ugly end of that relationship she decides to never date a coworker again, but her world starts to change when she meets Lee Shi-woo (Song Kang).

Shi-woo, is a smart guy who got temporarily transferred to the main office. He also happens to be the ex of the reporter (Chae Yoo-jin played by Yura) involved in Ha-kyung’s break-up situation.

Ha-kyung and Shi-woo’s chemistry overflows and they end up having a one night stand. She believes he will be leaving soon as his position is temporary, but he surprises her with the news of his permanent transfer.

Now they both have to work together, and after realizing their feelings for each other decide to start a secret office romance despite Ha-kyung’s previous decision. They both agree on keeping their relationship a secret and decide that if anyone finds out, they will break-up.

The rising tension in their job, their exes and family problems come along as their relationship develops, but is their bond strong enough to survive all of these?

Storm in the heart

Forecasting Love and Weather’ mixes the work life of people who work in the meteorological office, and how hard it can be for them to balance their work life and their personal one. If you like storylines that give a glimpse of the actual work behind this job, you will like this drama.

The love storyline however, comes along as a slow burn at times. Even though the communication between Ha-kyung and Shi-woo was great, they also had some trouble understanding each other’s issues and complicated family lives.

The drama successfully brings out their storyline, helping viewers to understand their actions, but sometimes the decision making of the main leads can be seen as rather slow.

This production definitely falls into a more mature genre. There are a lot of adult hardships in the side characters’ storylines, as well as some PTSD and trauma. However, if you are into stories that seriously go off on showing the hardships of life, this drama is for you.

As a Song Kang and Park Min Young fan, I was glad to see not just their great chemistry but also their incredible talent to bring such complex characters to life.

Forecasting Love and Weather’ is available on Netflix, and you can watch the trailer below.
