[Review] Extraordinary Attorney Woo

This time for our drama review we want to talk about one of the most popular productions of 2022, and it very human and heartfelt story. Let’s talk about the ENA production ‘Extraordinary Attorney Woo’.

Written by Moon Ji-won and directed by Yoo In-shik, ‘Extraordinary Attorney Woo’ is a legal drama which develops through different legal cases handled by the law firm Hanbada and its lawyers.

Starting off our main character Woo Young-Woo (Park Eun Bin), is a genius with an IQ of 164, she graduated top of her class and is praised for her photographic memory. Young-Woo has autism spectrum disorder and finds hard social interactions, however, her abilities and skills as a lawyer are incredible. She gets hired at Hanbada, and quickly becomes a great asset to the firm.

While working in Hanbada she meets Lee Jun-ho (Kang Tae-oh) who is part of the litigation team, Jung Myung-seok (Kang Ki-young) who becomes her mentor, Choi Su-yeon (Ha Yoon-Kyung) former classmate of hers and now colleague, and Kwon Mo-woo (Joo Jong-hyuk) a lawyer with a lot of ambition.

One case a day

Throughout this drama, Young-Woo along with the Hanbada team resolve several cases revolving around sensitive topics such as alledge sexual assault, suicide, gambling, North Korean defectors, and many others.

While solving these cases she also becomes close to Jun-ho, and eventually they start dating, however, due to her condition they both have to deal with comments and unwanted opinions from peers and their families, eventually all of these makes her have doubts about their relationship.

Attorney Woo also has to deal with family issues, and finding the truth about her mothers, who abandon her when she was a baby. At the same time of battling and trying to find her place in a word where there are a lot of misconceptions about people with her disorder. 

A look into Woo’s world

Throughout this series we can see the world from Young-woo’s point of view, the producers of the series beautifully portrayed how her thinking process was and how a big part of it came along with one of her biggest interes whales and other marine mammals. 

This production also touches upon the prejudice and misconceptions disable people have to deal in the society. Attorney Woo in her own way shows how even with her condition she is able to be a successful professional.

Extraordinary Attorney Woo’ is a series that shares a lot of sensitive topics, but its production, acting and direction were beautifully done. This series is available of Netflix, watch the trailer below.
