[Review] Black Knight

We are back with a new drama review, and we are talking about the webtoon-turned-drama ‘Black Knight’, its cast, story and fantastic production. Let’s start.

Based on the webtoon by Lee Yun-Kyun, ‘Black Knight’ tells the story of a dystopian future where oxygen has become a luxury, after a meteorite hit the Earth and heavily polluted the air.

This disaster created a larger gap between social classes, and just a few can afford clean air, while others struggle to get it. In this post-apocalyptic society, an elite group who work as delivery drivers have become the Robin Hood of the poor, and try to unveil the corruption and protect those that were forced to live as ‘Refugees’ by the high-class citizens.

The Characters

5-8 (Kim Woo-bin) is a legendary delivery driver, and he is also known as legendary Knight, not only because of his strength but also due to his work to protect refugees and fellow delivery drivers while delivering clean oxygen, not only to the rich but also the poor.

Ryu Seok (Song Seung-Heon) on the complete opposite end, is a wealthy heir to the biggest corporation, in charge of creating clean oxygen for delivery and cleaning the air in the city. However, his political interest and unlimited greed completely changes the plan his father has to create a better world, and instead he wants to keep ruling the air everyone breathes.

Yoon Sa-wol (Kang You-seok) is a free spirited refugee with the dream of becoming a delivery driver, he looks up to 5-8 and wishes to become a knight just like him. Sa-wol was rescued by Jeing Seol-ah (Esom), a military officer who became his adoptive sister and only family.

Knights

Ryu Seok’s plan keeps falling apart after the ‘Knights’ keep uncovering the corruption and experiments he has been doing to solidify his position and gain total control of the citizens. As a distraction he decides to open a contest to find the next Delivery Driver.

Sa-Wol decides to enroll in this contest as a way to seek revenge for the loss of one of his adoptive sisters and reach his dream, however, in his way he finds out about secrets of his birth, and plots that if they become real would change the way everyone lives.

The Knights from their side, will do everything it takes to protect those who need help, and stop the disappearances of refugees and children.

With a top tier production and cast, ‘Black Knight’ brings to life complex characters and an interesting story. The character development and pacing in this production are fascinating and engaging, making viewers watch the drama in one go.
