Actor Spotlight: Kim Woo-bin

For today’s Actor Spotlight I am sharing the career of one of my OGs. He captured my attention in 2012, and hasn’t stopped surprising me with his acting skills ever since. Let’s dive into Kim Woo-bin’s career.

Kim Hyun-joong (aka. Kim Woo-bin) started off in the entertainment industry as a model in 2009. It wasn’t until 2011 that he had his first minor role in a drama, and started going by his stage name Kim Woo-bin.

His first role was in the 2011 special series ‘White Christmas’, and in the same year he also participated in the sitcom ‘Vampire Idol’.

For the first years of his acting career, Woo-bin had many roles where he portrayed the teen rebel. A lot of these roles were full of charisma and everyone loved the angst of them. In 2012 he landed a support role in the very popular drama ‘A Gentleman’s Dignity’ and his teen angst was at peak.

This same year he also had a guest role for the productions ‘To The Beautiful You’. 2013 was the year where Woo-bin’s talent earned him several main roles, starting with the drama ‘School 2013’, the global hit ‘The Heirs’ and the movie ‘Friends 2’.

The rise of the heartthrob

With his bad boy vibes and unmatched visuals he continued moving up in the drama and movie industry, the following years he starred in the movies ‘The Con-Artist’ and ‘Twenty’.

In 2016, he returned to the small screen with the worldwide hit ‘Uncontrollably Fond’ along with Suzy. This same year he also participated in the movie ‘Master’.

Due to health issues Woo-bin took a few years hiatus from the entertainment world. He came back in 2022 with the tvN production ‘Our Blues’, and soon after the movie ‘Alienoid’. He is set to take part in the upcoming Netflix drama ‘Black Knight’.

If you are new to the K-drama world, enjoy a throwback with Kim Woo-bin’s oeuvre. His growth as an actor can be seen on the screen, and we are super happy he is back to acting and healthy. Follow him on Instagram and keep an eye on him for his future projects.
