[Review] ATEEZ – Zero: Fever Part.1

ATEEZ is back with the fifth mini-album ‘ZERO: Fever Part.1’. This comeback was highly anticipated by ATINY because it’s been seven months since their last release.

The previews for this album looked incredible, the comeback trailer was just brilliant, with storytelling that was very engaging. I found what they are doing with their music and the concepts very interesting.

Just go to their channel, and watch their previews and teaser videos for this comeback. They are fantastic.

ZERO: FEVER Part.1

Dear Diary : 2016.07.29’ is an intro like no other. The storytelling behind it is very interesting and to all the ATINY out there, if you know how this intro fits in the ATEEZ universe and theories please let us know, we are intrigued.

Right after the intro we get ‘FEVER’, starting with strong vocals and a smooth flow. This track feels quite sentimental despite having an up-beat tempo. My favourite part was the beat drop just before the chorus and how the piano was incorporated in the bridge.

THANXX’ is one of the two title tracks for this mini-album and it goes hard from start to finish. This song screams ATEEZ production, and any K-pop fan will recognize this is their song just a few seconds in. It has that ATEEZ factor that makes it special and distinguishable. In three words ‘A Total Bop!’

TO THE BEAT’ is next with top class rapping, a mind blowing layering and a mixing that makes this track have cypher vibes. I need the live performance for this track because I’m sure it would be incredible.

This song is followed by the title track ‘INCEPTION’, this song is rather different from other title tracks I have listened to from ATEEZ and it feels almost like a b-side. It’s a nice change that fits the vibe and concept behind this comeback perfectly.

Let’s talk about the music video for this release. The dance break was incredible, the lighting, special effects and transitions were beautiful. My highlight was definitely the dancing scene with the water because the effects and movements were charming and the members looked incredible. Watch it below.

We get an urban hip-hop vibe in the intro of ‘Good Lil Boy’, and overall there is a nice balance between the vocals and the rapping in the track.

Closing this mini-album is ‘One Day At A Time’ starting off with lo-fi beats that hooked me straight away. This song has a rather groovy and R&B inspired tempo that makes it such a soft and good listen. This b-side is fantastic, smooth and one of my favourite tracks in this release.

That’s it for this release, you can listen to this mini-album below, and let us know which one was your favourite track.
