[Indie Pick] Se So Neon

We’re back with a new Indie Pick, this time featuring one of my all-time favorite rock bands Se So Neon. The group consists out of three members, Hwang So-yoon, U-su and Hyunjin and they officially debuted in 2017.

Se So Neon is signed with Magic Strawberry Sound and honestly they have been releasing amazing quality music since their beginning days. Though when they first began, they were signed under BGBG Record.

Originally they started off with a couple of different members, nl. Gangto and Fancy Moon but they had to enlist for their mandatory military service.

The name Se So Neon comes from a children’s magazine that was printed in the sixties. It stands for ‘new youngsters’ or ‘bird youngsters’. That explains their logo.

Music

Currently they have two EPs and a handful of singles. But I feel like they go for quality of quantity. Hwang So-yoon, the lead vocal and guitarist writes and produces most of their music herself.

Here are some of my favorites:

‘The Wave’ is actually the first song I ever heard by them and I was immediately obsessed by the vocals, the crunchy guitar and the excellent drumplay. There’s a synergy in that song that makes it so, so good.

‘Midnight Train’ is brilliant and it makes me upset that so many people don’t know this song.

The song ‘I’m Watching a Loneliness Just Arisen’ comes from their debut EP ‘Summer Plumage’.

Their latest comeback was with the song ‘NAN CHUN’.

If you want to get to know them a bit better, go ahead and check out their ODG video where they perform ‘NAN CHUN’.

Also watch this one, they’re so adorkable. Like how can you not love them to bits.

Solo Work

The lead singer So-yoon also has some solo works that are definitely worth checking out. Here’s her solo Spotify profile. Honestly, it’s so DOPE! I love everything about it. I’m just a sucker for power women.

Here’s the group’s Instagram and their Spotify profile.

It’s not the first time I’ve featured them. I made an entire list with indie/rock bands that are worth exploring so if you want to discover more indie bands, you can click here
