Film Review: Tune In For Love

Today’s film review will take us back in time and it’ll make us appreciate that 90’s vibe that many out there miss. This movie is about mistakes, maturity and timing. It’s also the perfect Sunday evening movie. ‘Tune In For Love’ is a Korean film written by Lee Jin-Hyuk and directed by Jung Ji-woo. It was released in August 2019.

Starring Kim Go-eun as Mi-Soo and Jung Hae-in as Hyun Woo, this movie is full of nostalgia. It is heartwarming but will also make you think about how important it is to come to terms with your past, and not letting it affect your present and future.

‘Tune In For Love’ tells the story of Mi-Soo, a girl working part time at a bakery previously owned by her parents, and Hyun Woo, a guy whose life has been bumpy after a tragic incident that took place in his high school years.

Throughout the film, Kim Go-eun and Jung Hae-in characters meet in different years but always fail to have that catch-up or reunite to talk. Because usually something goes wrong like Hyun Woo breaking his mobile.

The movie develops in the time frame from 1995 and 2005, showing a glimpse of the IMF crisis of 1997, trying to capture the life of many before and after this period. I particularly liked how this production showed the growth of the main characters separately and how there was no villain other than timing.

It was plotted in a way that the characters would reunite once they were both ready to move forward and trust each other. Maturity played a big role in the development of the characters as well as the realisation that you need to forgive yourself to grow in life.

I hope to see more production starring Kin Go-eun and Jung Hae-in, they have really good chemistry together and I was looking forward to seeing them play the main couple since Jung Hae-in had the cameo in ‘Goblin’.

Overall, ‘Tune In For Love’ is an easy-to-watch movie that will leave you with that fuzzy feeling. The characters are relatable and the film does its best to show normal people trying to figure out life through good moments and hardships.
