EP Review: BVNDIT – Carnival

Our girls from BVNDIT are back with the EP ‘Carnival’ and I was waiting with high expectations! Let’s dive in shall we.

Carnival

The EP starts off with the track ‘Carnival’. The intro is heavily inspired by reggaeton in the beginning before completely shifting to EDM and to be honest it’s kind of dope. The jungle sounds are not really what I was expecting for a ‘carnival’ theme but it fits with their title track.

The title track is ‘JUNGLE’.

The track is awesome. It’s dripping with self-confidence and sass. I just really love their low voices and there’s a dance break!! One of the music video locations is the rooftop where Jessi shot for her MV ‘Who dat B’ and the inside of the theatre matches as well. I’m kind of in love with the idea that they drew their inspiration from such an impactful queen.

‘Come and Get it’ is the third song on the EP. That intro already had me hyping. I was completely sold when their harmonies came in. This track is fun! The girls went off with their vocals, it’s absolutely stunning when they go into those belts. I really like the brief moments of the horns.

Pre-releases

Next up is ‘Cool’ and this was pre-released with an accompanying MV.

I’m in love with this MV. It’s so funky and also some transitions are hilarious. This song is all over the place and I’ve been replaying it quite a bit. It’s an ode to your girl friendships and I STAN.

‘Children’ is another pre-release and is also the last song on ‘Carnival’. Here’s the MV.

Honestly, if you haven’t looked up the lyrics translation, I’ve got you covered.

“Mom, mom, I’m a grown up now (A little girl)
I don’t need my walker now, I’ve reached puberty (Oh yeah)
Time is fast unlike me, who is slow
The picture is getting drawn with my changes
Mom, mom, now I’m finally grown up”

The meaning of the song, especially since Mother’s Day happened just this weekend in my home country had me tear up a little. This song is beautiful and meaningful and it warms my heart.

Overall

Honestly BVNDIT hasn’t disappointed me yet and their EP ‘Carnival’ didn’t let me down either. They’ve been steadily releasing bops and I can’t wait until they release a full album. If you want to read about their previous comeback ‘BE!’, click here
