EP Review: BOL4 – Puberty Book II Pum

Bolbbalgan4 is back with the same celestial vocals but some changes in the members. This is the first release for Ahn Ji-young as the only member of BOL4, and we are a bit sad with Woo Ji Yoon’s departure but let’s hope that bright and great things come ahead for these two very talented artists in the new era of their career.

For now, let’s dive right into this new release.

Puberty Book II Pum

Starting off this EP is ‘Blank’, with a playful and happy beat. This pop track has a happy feel I liked, and it fits perfect with a sunny summer day.

Hug’ plays next and it is also the title track for this release. I really loved the indie-pop style of this song. It feels a lot like BOL4’s first releases and I’m totally into the going back to roots style. Check out the very colourful and also adorable music video below.

The pre-released track ‘Leo’ featuring EXO’s Baekhyun is next. This song is just so charming, the rhythm, vocals and flow make me feel at ease and the music video is just full of adorable shots. Check it out below.

We get some soft vocals and beautiful instrumentalization in ‘Counseling’, this song definitely will hit a soft spot in the listeners. Ji-young’s vocals are sweet and there is certain rawness in this song that makes it just so special.

This extended play comes to an end with the ballad ‘Dandelion’, the piano, cello and drum gave me the chills. It is a beautifully composed and produced track, the backing vocals were incredible and overall it was a really stunning finale for a release that marks a new beginning for BOL4.

You can listen to this extended play below.
