Album Review: Dreamcatcher – Dystopia: The Tree Of Language

Our ‘piri piri’ queens of Dreamcatcher just released their new album ‘Dystopia: The Tree Of Language’ and we’ve been supporting them for a while, so let’s dive into the new music!

‘Dystopia: The Tree Of Language’

As usual there’s an ‘intro’ and I’m really loving the vibe of this one. There’s an amazing beat that flows into the piano beautifully. I kind of really want an orchestral version of all their intros, that’d be awesome!

Then we get the title track ‘Scream’.

What an amazing addition to their series of title tracks that never disappoint. The song legit gave me chills when I first heard it. The lyrics, the relentless beat that drives everything until the bridge, Dami’s rap, everything comes together so well. Also the chanting!!

They released the ‘suit dance’ version… I’m dead.

Let’s continue with the rest of the album.

Next up is ‘Tension’. This feels like a classic Dreamcatcher track. I’m really digging the little ‘badabadabada’s’. The bridge gives you a chance to catch your breath with some beautiful vocals.

Red Sun’ starts off with what I think is an organ? This song takes you places y’all. Don’t ask me how, but they managed to use all these different rhythms and it works. Hella Dope!

Track five on this release is ‘Black Or White’. The funk that comes in after the first verse. It was totally unexpected but how cool is that! Also Dami, honey, you’re doing amazing sweetie. Also vocal line, come through!!

Jazz Bar’ is brilliant. The title kind of made me expect the jazziness of the song, but my expectations were completely met. The soft lyrics, the soft vocals and the happy piano just makes my day. I’m a little surprised that this really is a Dreamcatcher song, but I love this type of music so this is definitely going into my soft playlists.

After a little jaunt in ‘Jazz Bar’ we enter the ‘SAHARA’. What a catchy chorus! The word ‘sahara’ will never be the same. I’m not entirely sure I like the autotune on the rap part. The little breathy moment with just the vocal and the one guitar had me shook.

‘In The Frozen’ is up next. Dreamcatcher is taking us on a world trip basically. I love the piano and the build up. I wasn’t expecting ‘In The Frozen’ to suddenly build up the tempo like that in the last thirty seconds.

Daybreak’ is more R&B than rock, but it’s lovely. The vocals here are stunning! They really have to carry the song, because there’s not a whole lot happening instrumentally in my opinion, apart from that bass, that is.

They pick the rhythm back up in ‘Full Moon’.

They released this two years ago as a single, but it’s finally on an album!

Then we get to the ‘Outro’. It’s beautiful, kind of creepy and the static made me think my headphones were broken. I dig it. There’s also an instrumental version of ‘Scream’ after ‘Outro’.

Siyeon released her solo song ‘Paradise’ only two weeks ago and I’m so happy that they added it to the album. We love a supportive family.

Overall

I’m super happy with ‘Dystopia: The Tree Of Language’ by Dreamcatcher. They did an incredible job and they delivered. My expectations are always very high and yet I’m never disappointed. I think ‘Scream’, ‘SAHARA’, ‘Black Or White’ and ‘Jazz Bar’ are my favorites.

The album isn’t on Spotify yet, but it’s on YouTube Music.

Go give them some love on Twitter!
