In this week’s actor spotlight we are talking about an actress whose career started at a very young age. Let’s talk about Mun Ka-young.
Mun Ka-young was born in Karlsruhe, Germany. At the age of 10 she moved to South Korea where she started her acting career. Her first role was in 2006 in the movie ‘To Sir, with Love’, soon after she landed her first TV role in the Mnet production ‘Fallen Angel, Jenny’.
Between the years 2007 and 2010, Ka-young participated in many movies and TV productions, in most of them she had minor or supporting roles. She was in the well-known classics ‘Prince Hours’, ‘Witch Yoo Hee’, ‘Ja Myung Go’, ‘The Reputable Family’ among many other projects.
In 2011, she was part of the cast for the classic ‘Heartstrings’. It wasn’t until 2014 that Ka-young had her first main role in the mini-drama ‘MiMi’ alongside Shim Chang-min from TVXQ!.
In the year 2015, she continued on with the portrayal of main characters in the production ‘The Merchant: Gaekju 2015’, ‘Delicious Love’, the web-drama ‘EXO Next Door’ and the movie ‘Island’.
The dramas ‘Mirror of the Witch’, ‘Jealousy Incarnate’ and ‘Live Up to You Name’, and the movies ‘Eclipse’ and ‘Twenty Again’, were next in Ka-young’s lengthy portfolio between 2016 and 2017.
In 2018, she portrayed Choi Soo Ji in the drama ‘Tempted’ loosely based on the French novel ‘Les Liaisons dangereuses’ by Pierre Choderlos de Laclos. In this production, Ka-young did a wonderful job with her character, giving a lot of depth to the emotions and having an amazing chemistry with her co-stars.
For this drama she won the 2018 Excellence Awards, Actress in a Monday-Tuesday Drama in the MBC Drama Awards.
‘Welcome to Waikiki 2’ was her next role, it was the complete opposite to her previous one, in this one she had a more funny and lighthearted character.
Ka-young with these two characters showed two completely different sides, her character in ‘Find Me In Your Memory’ had a lot of emotional depth that she portrayed flawlessly. For this drama she earned the Best Couple Award at the 2020 MBC Drama Awards.
