Queendom Season 2 – Episode 1 Recap

MNET is back with their latest survival show and this time they released the long-awaited sequel to the 2019 hit series ‘Queendom’.

This second season aired its first episode on Thursday and though this review is a bit late because life threw us some curveballs, we were still super stoked to watch it.

Let’s take a closer look at who’s in it and the first couple of performances.

Episode 1

The episode started off with the pre-released performances of the competing groups. Here’s the full line-up of the participants.

Brave Girls
WJSN
VIVIZ
Kep1er
Hyolyn
LOONA

There’s some major talent in the list so we already have very high expectations.

Here are the opening performances.

The new MCs of the season are none other than the queen herself; Taeyeon and Lee Yong Jin who is a well-known TV host.

This first episode we got to see the groups react to one another as they entered the stage. We got cute interactions between Kep1er and Hyolyn. The members from Brave Girls seemed quite shy. VIVIZ had to remind some of the WJSN members that they’re their sunbaes. It was great to see all these little moments and I hope that the show builds some great friendships all around.

The groups also had to pick the order for the first round. Here’s the final line-up:

VIVIZ
Hyolyn
Kep1er
Brave Girls
LOONA
WJSN

The First Round

The theme for the first round is ‘Signature Songs’. So get ready for some greatest hits!

This round they can earn 10 000 points. The score is built up out of 30% global vote, 60% live audience vote and 10% of the votes from the groups’ ranking.

The members from VIVIZ were up first and used two GFriend songs to portray the passing of time and the struggle to debut as a new group. They played a mash-up of ‘Time For The Moon Night’ and ‘Rough’.

Their performance was beautiful and emotional and had me choking up. I wasn’t the only one as quite a few members of the other groups were choked up, including VIVIZ member Eunha.

The following performance was by Hyolyn. She performed the SISTAR global hit ‘Touch My Body’. It was awesome to see her run the full show and see her go out and buy props and manage stage lighting. The concept of the performance was Hyolyn acting as a host of paradise.

It was a fantastic performance and she 100% succeeded in her party planning. It was great to watch and gave me an instant smile. Her vocals were fabulous and even though she had some problem with her stage outfit, she acted like a total pro.

Sadly we also got some bad news. LOONA won’t be participating in the first round due to the members catching COVID. We hope they recover well.

That was our recap for episode 1 of ‘Queendom’. We’re excited for next week’s episode. See you then!
