The girls from GWSN are finally back with their fifth mini-album ‘THE OTHER SIDE OF THE MOON’. We’ve been waiting for this one! Member Miya created the album cover of this mini.
THE OTHER SIDE OF THE MOON
We start off with the electronic ‘Burn’. This EDM track only has four members on it; Miya, Seoryoung, Anne and Lena. It’s an interesting track with more rap verses than usual. It’s fun and intense and feels more like an intro, leaning more on the shorter side.
‘I Can’t Breathe’ follows that with a very alluring sound. The whispering is intense and I am 100% here for it. I desperately need to see a choreo for this, I think it’d be awesome. There’s an interesting build-up in the middle of the track. I am in love with this song. Seoryoung and Lena are listed as co-writers. This is going on my inner hoe anthem playlist. I’m thoroughly surprised this wasn’t their title track.
Next up is the title track ‘Like it Hot’. The song is a BOP y’all. There’s such an interesting play with the highs and lows. The bass is super deep and makes for a fun contrast with the plucky strings. There’s such a funky vibe to the chorus that it’ll have you vibe to it in no time.
Next up
‘e i e i o’ starts off with some groovy instrumentation. If you’re wondering about the title of the song, apparently it’s a reference to the sound in ‘Old MacDonald had a farm’. This is such a quirky bop with interesting sounds and a stunning pre-chorus. It’s such an earworm.
We follow that up with ‘Starry Night’. Seoryeong and Lena have writing credits on this one as well. What an awesome synth intro. The harmonies are beautiful! This track feels very wholesome and shows some of GWSN’s biggest strengths.
We go groovy with ‘I Sing (lalala)’. The piano line in the background is super jazzy and I love it a lot. Their vocals are superb in this and I would love to hear a live performance of this, including a jazz band. The snaps really add to the overall feel of the song.
‘THE OTHER SIDE OF THE MOON’ by GWSN is another fantastic mini-album to add to their discography. This is going to be a timeless release, just like their previous mini ‘the Keys’.
You can find it on Spotify here.
I listened to the album without knowing what their title track would be, and I was also surprised that ‘I Can’t Breathe’ wasn’t their TT. But I think ‘Like It Hot’ (which is also good) was closer to their sound that’s why it was chosen. In my opinion, overall, this is a pretty solid album. ♥️
We 100% agree! It’s super solid and also an album you won’t get tired of very easily. We love it!
