Girl group WJSN just debuted their new sub-unit WJSN THE BLACK with the single album ‘My Attitude’.
This sub-unit consists of members Seola, EXY, Bona and Eunseo. This is the second unit they debuted. The previous one is WJSN CHOCOME who released the single ‘Hmph!’ which was a total bop.
WJSN THE BLACK has a completely different concept though. Where WJSN CHOCOME reminds us of the beauty of 2nd gen with its funky, crazy, colorful releases, WJSN THE BLACK is more contemporary R&B mixed with a dose of empowered femininity. It’s cool as hell.
My Attitude
The first single on ‘My Attitude’ is ‘Easy’. This title track is described as ‘dark disco’ and I understand why. It’s groovy and sophisticated and is a guaranteed hit. I love the combination of the husky vocals, the groovy bass and the smooth rapping. The chorus is HELLA DOPE and a total earworm.
The music video reminds me of a K-drama. I kind of hope they continue on with this storyline. I think it’d be fun to see a webseries or something with this storyline.
We get women in power suits and I am 100% here for it.
The second single is ‘Kiss Your Lips’. This gives us a combination of 808 beats, interesting textures with the instrumentation that give it a summer party vibe. I kind of wish they had used some bass or electric guitar to make the sound a bit fuller. The synths they used are fun though.
So far WJSN has really been hitting it out of the park with their sub-units. I am thoroughly intrigued by WJSN THE BLACK and ‘My Attitude’ and I hope they release more music soon. If you would like to read our review for WJSN’s last comeback, you can click here.
