[Indie Pick] Bobae

This week’s Indie Pick is all about singer-songwriter Bobae.

Bobae is signed under INPLANET MUSIC and debuted in 2019 with the single ‘ORMG’. The synths in the bridge are insane and I LOVE it.

In 2019 she also released the single ‘Don’t treat me so bad’. Her vocals sound so rich in this one. I like how she plays with her higher register so effortlessly.

Her first single album ‘Like a’ came out in 2020 with the singles ‘iMAC’ and ‘Tiger’ and it feels more experimental than the previous ones. The title track ‘Tiger’ leans heavy into hip-hop. ‘iMAC’ is an interesting listen with the autotune and the heavy Neo-pop vibe kind of reminiscent of SUMIN.

Bobae also released the single ‘P.U.N.K.S.’ in the same year. Honestly, I think if Bobae and BiBi did a collab, that would be such a moment. The chorus of ‘P.U.N.K.S.’ is so dope.

We’re going indie with the next comeback ‘onoff’. This soft song shows her vocal range and her diversity in style. The girl can pull a whole bunch of genres off.

Her last release was the one that put her on my radar. I featured it in my Weekly K-Indie Report. I genuinely love the track ‘0%’ so much. The music video is stunning and I’m in awe of the warmth in her vocals.

Personally, I think Bobae dances the line between indie and R&B so well. Bobae produces, writes and composes her own music so stan talent y’all.

You can find her here on Instagram and here on Spotify. I hope you discover some of her music gems and tell all your friends about them. The girl deserves more spotlight.
