Webtoon Feature: Cursed Princess Club

This time I bring you one of my favourite comedy Webtoons calledCursed Princess Club, by LambCat. It’s an absolute gem!

The story

Not all princesses are beautiful, blessed, and have birds doing their hair every morning. Meet Gwendolyn, the third princess of the Pastel Kingdom; she can’t really sing and isn’t a fairy-tale beauty, but she’s got the biggest heart and a pet possum. Her family dotes on her and adores her completely. But when she overhears her newly betrothed prince Frederick from the Plaid Kingdom call her ugly, her self-confidence shatters.

That night she comes across a strange group of people in the middle of the haunted forest, and stumbles into the strange world of the CPC, aka the Cursed Princess Club! Although initially hesitant, Gwendolyn joins the CPC. The club is a safe haven for cursed princesses (and princes, but they didn’t want to change the name) who were mistreated, hidden away, or cast out because their curses weren’t lifted. It’s a place where they can support each other and remember they are worthy of love, without waiting for anyone to come save them. Well, or where they can simply hang out, eat junk food and have slumber parties anyway.

We find out their backstories and curses one by one as the story progresses. They are just the right people to help our Gwennie grow and learn that not fitting the mold doesn’t make you any less of a princess!

Overall comments

The art is simple but cute, and most chapters have original background music as well. The overall tone is light and funny but the writer still manages to properly shift the mood when the story calls for it. The plot development doesn’t take a secondary seat to the humour, but rather the way the whole thing is drawn and written is simply hilarious.

It’s hilarious and heartwarming, and has enough women supporting each other honestly and lovingly to make up for at least three years of series and movies that don’t even pass the darn Bechdel test. I honestly cannot gush enough about all the amazing female friendships in this series. WE NEED MORE OF THIS KIND OF CONTENT.

Drop what you’re doing and read it. Seriously.
