[Time Capsule] 2AM – Confession of a friend

2AM, the ballad kings of K-pop, and their single ‘Confession of a friend’ are our feature for [Time Capsule] for this week.

The group 2AM is a ballad group that was co-managed by JYP and BigHit and later on only by JYP Entertainment. They were active from 2008-2014. They’re not officially disbanded. The members Jo Kwon, Lee Changmin, Lim Seulong and Jeong Jinwoon have stated a couple of times that despite them being under different agencies, they had clauses in their contracts that would allow them to have activities as 2AM.

The group 2AM was the counterpoint to the R&B/hip-hop group that was 2PM. They released some amazing ballads like ‘Never let you go’, ‘One Spring Day’ and ‘Can’t let you go even if I die’.

They’ve been placed in the friendzone and it’s tearing them up inside. Here are some of the translated lyrics, including the iconic ‘Baby, now come to me and be my lady.’

“You hold my hand and say there is no one but me.
Having a friend like me
is really a big blessing.
Every time you said you wanted to be friends
I had to suppress my heart little by little.

It’s better for me to protect you.
This is what I started thinking without realizing.
Now I want to hug you
and love you, this is what I started thinking.

Baby now come to me
and be my lady.”
