Throwback: The first singer listed on Melon

We’re back, this time with a special throwback, this time we took a look at the first artist listed on Melon.

Everyone who is even a bit into K-pop has heard of the mammoth that is Melon. The music chart hosts a variety of hot topics. There’s a real-time chart of the most searched artists. They have their own streaming service and each artist gets their own little information page with info, a list of their releases and promotional photos. It’s a veritable source of information.

Because of the fact that it is such a valuable source, I spend a lot of time on it for the features on this music blog. Curiosity got the better of me after I saw the URL of an artist and noticed the numeric code at the back.

For example this is the URL for BTS’ page:

https://www.melon.com/artist/timeline.htm?artistId=672375

The 672375 is their numeric code. So I wondered, who are the ones before this number, or even better, who was the very first artist listed? In other words, who is 1?

Na Hoon-A

The first singer listed on Melon ever is none other than Na Hoon-A.

The trot singer debuted in 1966 with the single ‘A Thousand Miles’. Na Hoon-A still releases music to this day and still has a lot of success. His 56-year-long career has been very impressive and his music is very touching.

Here’s his most recent music video.

Let’s go back to 1987 where he performed ‘Yellow Jacket’.

You can find him on Spotify here.
