Singer-songwriter DONNA on heartbreak and believing in your own potential

‘Will You Miss Me?’ is the latest single by singer-songwriter DONNA. It’s an 80s synth pop track that talks about how love turns to resentment which turns to anger. Breakups are a double edged sword because, “Love always hurts the both of us, however we want it from our lover till the end. It’s the constant ‘Please miss me. Please remember me.’”

For ‘Will You Miss Me?’ it was the second time DONNA filmed a music video. The first one was for her single ‘Oh, Daisy!’. “I had a lot of fun shooting the video. At first, it was a little awkward to act in front of the camera. However, as time went by it became a lot easier. I tried to portray many emotions of broken love. That’s what the cuts are for on my face.”

You can see some behind the scenes footage of the shoot on DONNA’s Instagram here.

The Credits

DONNA has been in the industry since 2015 when she first co-composed and co-arranged the OST ‘Come To Me’, sung by K.Will. The jump from writing for others to writing for herself was difficult. “When I make songs for other artists, I need to evaluate them objectively and identify their strengths and weaknesses. It’s not that easy to evaluate myself like that. At this point, it’s a little easier. I’d like to think I know myself at least a little now.”

She’d love to be able to write songs for the vocal duo DAVICHI and Girls’ Generation’s Taeyeon. “I also really like Selena Gomez as a pop artist. If she sings a song I made, I might faint with happiness. “

“In a song, the lyrics are the purpose and the melody is the means. The two are so closely connected that I write the lyrics as I’m composing.”

DONNA studied composing while she was a K-pop trainee. “I spent several years as a trainee and I thought that making songs was a lot of fun. When my debut as a singer was postponed indefinitely, I terminated my contract and started focusing more on making music.”

“My entire growth as a musician was an exercise for me to love myself more. Both as a person and as a musician I had to believe in my potential and prove it to others and myself. It was really difficult and it was a very lonely time. Though, I found myself a little more and I hope people can relate to that feeling through my songs.”

More music by DONNA is coming in October. She doesn’t know if it’ll be a single or an EP yet, but we’ll be on the lookout so we’ll keep you posted. You can check out her Spotify here.
