[Review] You’re So Precious To Me

We’re back with a new film review and this time we’re taking a closer look at the 2021 film ‘You’re So Precious To Me’, alternatively known as ‘My Lovely Angel’.

The film was written and directed by Lee Chang Won and Kwon Sung Mo. This was the duo’s first feature film.

Plot

‘You’re So Precious To Me’ is a film about Jae-Sik, excellently portrayed by Jin Goo (‘Mr. Sunshine’, ‘The Witch: Part 1’). Jae-Sik is struggling with a mountain of debt. He runs a little entertainment company and when one of the girls dies, he discovers her seven-year-old daughter in her apartment.

The girl Eun-Hye, played by Jung Seo-Yeon, is blind and deaf and has been living off of bread since her mother’s passing. Of course she doesn’t recognise the stranger who suddenly entered her life, nor does she understand her mother passed away.

Jae-Sik tries to play her father so he can get the downpayment of the apartment. Things however don’t turn out so easy.

Overall

Despite the rather straightforward plot, I really enjoyed this film. The performances were stellar and Jin Goo really did a great job showing how desperately lonely his character was underneath his prickly behavior.

Jung Seo-Yeon was an absolute delight to watch. Her pain and confusion was the viewer’s pain, her joy at feeling rain or petting a puppy became the viewer’s joy. The way she portrayed the blindness of the character was really well done.

Throughout the film you can see how the two characters find ways to connect and communicate and that is the prettiest part of the movie.

‘You’re So Precious To Me’ has a very small scale but leaves a massive impact. I definitely recommend watching it.
