[Review] NCT Dream – Glitch Mode

NCT Dream is back with their second album ‘Glitch Mode‘. Just last year they became triple million sellers with their first album and repackage. The dreamies are growing up and we love to see their growth since their ‘Chewing Gum’ era.

The album spoiler released just a few days ago had us absolutely hyped up. With ‘Glitch Mode’ we are expecting a new sound and even more diversity of genres. NCT Dream is always out there surprising us with every single comeback and we love it. Let’s dive into the music of this one!

Glitch Mode

Fire Alarm‘ kicks off this release and we are already hyped up with the chanting, heavy bass and hip-hop beats. Jisung’s rapping in this track is AMAZING, I LOVED the inclusion of the actual alarm in the song, and the full single is absolutely crazy but a solid start for this album.

The title song ‘Glitch Mode‘, takes over and keeps hyping up listeners with a DOPE arrangement. The addition of instrumentals in a track that is mostly heavy on synth and even includes arcade sounds, is definitely something that only NCT can pull off. This song goes off and the dreamies absolutely killed it in every second of it.

With a video game and arcade theme, the music video shows off some impressive visuals and awesome effects. The season change in the music video and the incredible choreography of this track makes this full production super memorable, and one of my favourite MVs by the dreamies. Check it below.

Next up

With a mix of EDM and hip-hop beats ‘Arcade‘ is next. The harmonisation for the hook was an awesome touch. This song is like a shot of energy and I really likes the flow and lovely vocal arrangement it has.

We go into pop with ‘It’s Yours‘. For this single Mark, Jeno, Jaemin and Jisung were involved in the writing of the lyrics. I found this single super charming and cute, it is pure happiness wrapped in a catchy track with beautiful singing.

Teddy Bear‘ comes along with a beautifully done musical layering and very soft R&B vocals mixed with EDM. The flow in this single is smooth and the ad-libs give it a passionate touch.

Get ready for a throwback with ‘Replay‘. Between the synth, the harmonies, and old school tempo, this track took me back to the early 2000s boy groups. Jeno’s rapping and Chenle’s singing in this song definitely stood out, I loved the power they added to their parts.

The Second Album

Hip-Hop takes over and also brings a sub-unit including Mark, Jeno, Jaemin and Jisung. ‘Saturday Drip‘ is an anthem and an awesome listen, it had me hyping up from start to end and I really liked its style.

With a funky rhythm and a synth-pop touch we get ‘Better Than Gold‘. In this song I personally feel that Haechan’s and Renjun’s vocals stood out, the easiness and smoothness in their delivery is something else.

Drive‘ follows up as a comfort song with a lovely piano and guitar instrumentation, this single is adorable and packed with the vocals power of the dreamies.

In an unexpected turn we get the single ‘Never Goodbye‘, with this track the dreamies go off to a brand new sound in the discography and I loved what they did with it. It is laid back, dreamy and the riffs add an alternative touch that intensified the power of their singing and even rapping.

Closing this release is ‘Rewind‘. Starting off with a literal rewind sound and transitioning to a R&B/pop inspired sound, with a unique style and an immaculate sound that closes this album on a very high note! Flawless!!

NCT Dream surprised me with this album. The way their music keeps evolving has me amazed in every comeback, and they have definitely never failed to deliver the best for the fans in every single release.
