The boys from KickFlip are finally here with their debut mini-album ‘Flip it, Kick it!’. The new JYP boygroup was formed through the survival show ‘LOUD’ which aired on SBS though there were a couple of switches between the final episode and their debut. The members are Kyehoon, Amaru, Donghwa, Juwang, Minje, Keiju and Donghyeon.
Flip it, Kick it!
We start off the EP with their title track ‘Mama Said’. This is a fun, pop punk track where the group is unapologeticly themselves. It has a catchy hook, great rap parts and a great vibe. I really enjoyed their energy. They did a great job!
‘Uuum great’ was pre-released two weeks ago. This is a hip-hop track with hyper pop elements and some really great instrumentals, I loved the beatboxing!
‘Warriors’ is up next. This is an alternative rock track with a killer electric guitar and a sick beat. Young K from DAY6 wrote the lyrics to this one, which according to the album description depict: “the aspirations of the brave youth who stand up to many who say it won’t be easy, saying, “Clench your fists and lift them to the sky, WARRIORS!””
After that comes ‘Knock Knock’ with a blend of hip-hop and dance. I loved the synth riffs and the catchy chorus. The repetitive drum sounds really create a very fun vibe. In the song they’re standing in front of their crush with their heart going bonkers, which is referenced in the fast pace and beat.
‘Like a Monster’ is an experimental hip-hop track. “It vividly describes the appearance of teenage boys who want to freely express themselves with ‘something only they can do’, with the background of a dance battle scene where they have forgotten everything and are passionately immersed in the present moment.” E.one is on the credits for the lyrics and the composing so that checks out. It’s a great track!
We’re closing the mini with ‘See You on Tomorrow’. This is a pop rock track that explores their shared memories in the hunt for their dreams and the hopes for tomorrow. It’s sweet and the bridge had some stunning vocals.
