[Review] Joohoney – MIXTAPE [PSYCHE]

Joohoney, one of the MONSTA X members, released his new EP ‘MIXTAPE [PSYCHE]’. We’ve been waiting for this one! Let’s go!

MIXTAPE [PSYCHE]

We start off with ‘INTRO (AMBITION)’. I am utterly shook by his flow and charisma. It’s absolutely amazing and the samples they added to the mix make it so, so cool. I knew he was good, but I am still a little bit shook. This goes hard y’all.

After that we get ‘PSYCHE’ which immediately grabs your attention by the throat and doesn’t let it go at all for the entire song. The production in this is so dope. The bridge with the sax feels a bit like an odd addition, but I’m not questioning it since it works so well.

Next up is ‘DIA’. This rhythm and flow is everything!! We get some old hip hop vibes and Joohoney does it so well. His diction is really cool and the variation in his diction is masterful.

‘Smoky’ is a lot softer but nonetheless hits hard. This feels rather like a personal SOS. The rock vibes that come in after the chorus are superior and I’m living for it.

We’re on the fifth track with ‘DARK & CLOUDY’ featuring Boa Kim, the ex SPICA member and current KEEMBO member. The vibe of this is hella dope and I love Boa Kim’s vocals. She adds this extra bit of excellence. The spacious EDM moment was insane and creates such an awesome texture.

Next up is the song ‘KING’. The intensity of this is so cool! Everything from the repetitive instrumental to the flow of Joohoney’s rapping makes this such an ideal song to replay.

The last track on the mixtape is ‘WING SUIT’ featuring TEM, a former member of the girl group 4ten. This is such a fun collab. The instrumentation is very dark and heavy. I wish they had added some extra variation in there, I think that would have spiced it up a little.

Overall

‘MIXTAPE [PSYCHE]’ by Joohoney definitely exceeded my expectations. I like his variety in style and flow. This is a completely different vibe than his previous mixtape ‘DWTD’.
