[Review] Hoppipolla – And Then There Was Us

Hoppipolla is back to delight us with a new EP. ‘And Then There Was Us’ is the title of this release, if you are not familiar with their music, check out our review for their previous extended play here.

This band is just talent from every angle, and their music is beautiful, touching and timeless.

Let’s start.

And Then There Was Us

The intro track ‘Where Is‘ begins the musical journey of this release, with this single Hoppipolla sets an expectant mood for this release, there is a certain uneasiness coming from the arrangement, that gets bigger and bigger with the inclusion of acoustic instrumentation.

The Love‘ follows it starting with a guitar riff and a very melancholic lyrical flow. This song follows a steady emotional flow, however, in the outro the orchestral composition becomes almost frantic and drops, leaving a sensation of relief. A total master piece.

The title track for this extended play comes next. ‘Your Ocean‘ delivered everything we expected from a Hoppipolla title track, this song is full of feeling, amazing vocals, and exquisite instrumentation. The music video follows this same sentiment, and with the production I could totally see the growth of this band from the Superband days. Tears.

We are taken on a smooth ride with ‘Unnatural‘, this song is soft and the cello and violin in this track are perfection. Its composition, vocals and harmonization are just breathtaking. A must-listen in Hoppipolla’s discography.

Mom‘ plays next and as expected just by its title, this song is emotional from start to end and for sure will bring more than one to tears. Just stunning and beautifully delivered.

Changing the mood and playing for a bit over five minutes ‘Wander‘ starts. This acoustic song took me to a different reality full of optimism and positivity. It’s the perfect track to go for long walks to forget about everything and just be free from worries for just those five minutes.

And Then There Was Us‘ serves as the outro for this beautifully crafted EP. It conveys all the different feelings that this release took us through. It is an emotional wrap up that ends on a positive and optimistic note.

Last on this release is the instrumental version of ‘Your Ocean‘.

Hoppipolla did it again and delivered an EP that was well-thought out, balanced and musically rich. These guys are legends.

Make sure to listen to ‘And Then There Was Us’ here.
