[Review] Hard Hit

We’re back with a new Film Review, this time we’re reviewing the 2021 film ‘Hard Hit’. If you listened to our podcast about Films of the first half of 2021, you know I was dying to watch it. I was lucky and was finally able to watch the hour and a half film.

Plot

‘Hard Hit’ is a thriller that portrays one family as they drive to school. That plan is derailed quite fast as the father, played by Jo Woo-Jin gets a phone call and is told that there’s a bomb underneath his seat. The two children in the car, Lee Jae-In and Kim Tae-yool. The movie follows the family as they try to follow what the person on the phone call is telling them to do.

Because of the fact that ‘Hard Hit’ mostly takes place in a car, it is quite reminiscent of ‘Locke’. The believability lies sorely on the acting of the actors, as there are so many close-ups. Actor Jo Woo-Jin did a fantastic job in selling the story, by just using his face. It was quite a feat to watch. Jo Woo-Jin was also in the film ‘Seo Bok‘.

I also wanted to give a big shout-out to Lee Jae-In who did a great job as well. She played a role in ‘Svaha the sixth finger’ as well.

The car chases in the film are pretty thrilling. Though I feel like the movie lost a bit of momentum in the second half, the amount of pivots in the story were very exciting to watch. I don’t want to give too much away from the plot as I think the film benefits from the shock factors.

Overall, ‘Hard Hit’ was a very enjoyable watch with great performances and a solid plot. This was one of the highest grossing films of 2021 in Korea, so definitely go check it out!
