[Review] Crush – with HER

Crush is about to enlist and just before he goes away for a short time he is leaving us another one of his masterpieces. His new EP ‘with HER’ was released today and this album has a legendary list of features that includes a few of the most incredible female vocalists of the Korean music industry.

Let’s get into the music of this masterpiece.

with HER

Piano acoustics start off this EP in the title track ‘Let Me Go’ featuring TAEYEON, and it gets more emotional as this track develops. The instrumentation as expected is pristine and TAEYEON’s vocals as usual blend seamlessly, making this song more heart-touching than it already is. This song is the perfect autumn track.

Below you can watch the music video.

With a more indie sound that includes a kinda groovy synth we get Lee Hi’s feature in ‘Tip Toe’, needless to say, Lee Hi and Crush’s vocals are a mix made in heaven. The production of this track is fantastic and I am a fan of how they layered and mixed this song. A masterpiece to groove to.

Featuring the legend Lee Sora we have ‘Love Encore’, the Bossa Nova inspired track mixed with some lo-fi tunes blew me away. This song is incredible from start to end, it is a musical experience to the ears with smooth vocals that take you to a sunset in the tropics.

With a more R&B sound we get ‘Step By Step’ featuring the queen Yoon Mirae. The EDM undertone mixed with R&B is GOOD. Yoon Mirae’s delivery as usual is out of this world, her vocals are fantastic and her smooth falsetto was insane.

Sadly we get to the end of this release with ‘She Said’ featuring BIBI. Crush’s vocals are slightly autotuned and have a quite interesting sound that I totally dig. He is back with his rapping, attacking us with killer rhymes that end in his mellow vocals. Emotional whiplash first hand. BIBI’s vocals and rapping are as smooth as expected, she nevers disappoints.

‘with Her’ is by far one of my favourite releases by Crush (and I love all his music), I loved how well balanced it was and how the features had the chance to shine as much as he did. This release is clean, emotional and beautifully crafted.

Treat yourself and listen to this release here.
