[Review] BOBBY – LUCKY MAN

iKON’s BOBBY just dropped the second full length album ‘LUCKY MAN’. It has been almost 3 years since BOBBY’s last album release, and we are excited to see what this talented rapper has to show.

Let’s check it out!

LUCKY MAN

We start off with the title track ‘U MAD‘ and as expected BOBBY goes off in this one with his rhyming and rap delivery. This song leaves a very strong impression and I can see why it was chosen as the title track. The music video is basically a short film full of incredible special effects and CG. Watch it below.

SKIT 1‘ is next and it is basically BOBBY leading listeners into this release. ‘RocKstaR‘ follows it up and with a a fantastic flow and beat, this track kinda reminded me of the vibe in his stages in SMTM3, full of charisma in the delivery with a very electronic driven track.

We get a bit of BOBBY’s melodic rapping in ‘NO TIME‘, but the highlight of this song is undoubtedly his fast delivery and the trap inspired backing track. The beats drops go hard and so does BOBBY in this song.

On a lighter note ‘BrEAk It DoWn‘ plays with a more chill and almost summery beat. The auto-tuned vocals were a nice and unique touch in this track, completely different to what he has released so far.

SKIT 2‘ follows that up and it’s funny and playful. This skit also welcomes listeners to the second part of BOBBY’s album starting with ‘In THE DaRK‘, an R&B tempo song that took me by surprise and I am loving this chill vibe and mix of singing and rapping with a touch of enhanced vocals, it is trendy and refreshing to listen.

We continue with the R&B sound with ‘LiLac‘, this song is rather groovy with an almost sentimental lyrical delivery. ‘Ur SOUL Ur BodY‘ follows it featuring iKON’s DK and I love this duo. DK’s vocals are mellow and mix flawlessly with BOBBY’s rapping.

SKIT 3‘ is next featuring Omar; and it is followed up by ‘GOrGeOuS‘. I really liked the instrumental and beat arrangement on this track with the enhanced vocals, it was unexpected but super cool.

LiAr‘ plays with an arrangement loop that goes extremely well with the kinda resentful energy that this track exudes, very unique and super interesting.

An electric guitar riff kicks off ‘HeartBROKEN PlaYBoY‘ and I love the rock vibe in this track, it reminded me a lot to early 2000s pop-rock bands, but in this case with a revamped style including electronic beats and some killer rapping.

The last skit of this album ‘SKIT 4‘ is next and flawlessly transitions to ‘RaiNinG‘ featuring iKON’s JU-NE, this song has a more pop-rock vibe that is just extremely suitable for BOBBY’s and JU-NE’s vibes together, the instrumentation in the bridge was lovely and it blended really well with their vocals.

We are nearing the end of this album with ‘Let iT Go‘, this track has a more chill R&B style with electronic beats, that reminded me to his single ‘I LOVE YOU’ but upgraded. The gospel choir sample as backing vocals towards the end of the song was an amazing addition that just enhanced this song.

DeViL‘ puts an end to this album with strong verse delivery and a rock track that is just amazing. The hip-hop beats and rock mix in this track is incredible and super unique. This song is intense, full of emotion and an amazing end for a well rounded album.

Final thoughts

BOBBY definitely killed it in this release, it was diverse in sound and showed a different vibe and style. The mix of Hip-Hop, Rock and R&B tracks was unique and showed off his growth as a producer and lyricist.
