[Review] Apink – HORN

The girls from Apink are back with their new album ‘HORN’. Let’s dive right in, because it’s been a while since we were blessed with an Apink comeback. Their last official comeback was in 2020 with ‘LOOK‘.

HORN

We start off with the title track ‘Dilemma’.This groovy track is an absolute CLUB BANGER. I am so in love with this track. The balance between the vocals and instrumentals is so interesting. The chorus is utterly addicting and is super catchy. I’m obsessed.

‘HOLY MOLY’ follows that with retro synths. The lyrics were co-written by member Son Naeun. This song is festive, fun and quirky. The vocals are superb and beautifully airy while also embracing the more rich tones in some verses. My ears were in heaven during the bridge with the layering.

After that we get ‘My oh My’. This mid-tempo dance ballad was co-written by Oh Hayoung. I really enjoyed the late nineties feel. What a lovely listen.

‘Nothing’ is by the new sub-unit JooJiRong consisting of Chorong, Eunji and Namjoo. This track is sassy, full of power and a blend of R&B and Hip-Hop. It’s a lot of fun.

Next up is ‘Red Carpet’. This one is by sub-unit Y.O.S. which consists of Bomim, Naeun and Hayoung. This track is groovy with retro influences and the chorus is absolutely SICK. I’m 100% here for this track.

Next up

‘Single Rider’ is a total bop. I love the vocal play and that groovy piano line. The chorus has this awesome slide to it. The bridge is unexpected with its electronica influences but it’s awesome.

After that we get ‘Free & Love’ which was written by member Park Chorong. This track is going to make you so happy. The brass instruments create this super fun ambience. What a shot of serotonin!

Kim Namjoo wrote the lyrics for ‘Just like this’. We’re going to a more laidback acoustic guitar moment. It’s a lovely switch and comes at the right time in the album. I love how we get to focus more on the vocals and I would so love to hear this live.

‘Trip’ was co-written by Oh Hayoung. This track blesses us with a lovely ballad that has an incredible warmth to it vocally. This ballad really tugs at the heartstrings.

After that we get ‘Dream’ which was written by Jeong Eunji. This is a mid-tempo ballad with some lovely synths in the instrumentation. It’s lovely and I love how clear the vocals are in this one.

The closing track on the album is ‘Thank You’ which was pre-released and you an read about here.

Overall, ‘HORN’ by Apink is another great album that they added to their discography. I’m very impressed and will keep this one in rotation for a long time.
