Today’s Rapper in the Spotlight is a figure in the Korean Music industry I admire the most. She’s an icon and her self confidence and skills are beyond incredible. Today we are talking about the QUEEN Jessi.
Jessica Hyun-ju Ho (Jessi) is a Korean-American hip-hop artist who debuted in 2005 at the age of 15 under Doremi Media. She released the two singles ‘Get Up’ and ‘Rebirth’ and was part of a collab with a hip-hop group, and in 2009 went on a five year hiatus.
New Beginnings
She came back in 2014 under the agency YMC Entertainment and debuted as a part of a hip-hop trio ‘Lucky J’. In 2015 she was a contestant in the first season of Unpretty Rapstar, gaining a lot of attention, not just for her incredible talent but also for her straightforward personality #WeStan. Her stages were amazing and she finished in second place in the competition.

In 2017, she came back with her first EP ‘Un2verse’, and topped number 4 in the World Album chart. Her track ‘Gucci’ is a self-confidence speech and she once more stated that she stands up for herself and owns it, the lyrics go like this:

She released the single ‘Down’ in 2018 and I’m a fan. It’s a refreshing summer-ish song that’s just super fun to listen too. You can check out the MV here:
In early 2019, Jessi joined PNation, Psy’s newly established record label. Under this entertainment company she released ‘Who Dat B’, a hip-hop driven track that is nothing but powerful. The music video is a piece of art, make sure to check it out.
Her latest release ‘Drip’ featuring Jay Park, is a heavy hip-hop track, the tunes and rhythm perfectly match Jessi’s style. With this track you can appreciate the creative freedom she has gained with experience. She’s on a whole new level, and I’m living for it.
Jessi is one of my favorite female artists. She is iconic and I’m sure she will leave a mark in the industry, with her honest personality, her confidence and her talent.
