We’re back with a new Indie Pick, this time featuring Samui. His style borders on Indie Rock with some folk influences. Also, I’m not talking about the place Koh Samui in Thailand. It’s not the easiest name to research.
Samui is a solo artist under his own label that started his career in 2016 with the song ‘Morning After Dawn’.
There’s something about his voice that immediately captivates and holds your attention like no other. I really like his timbre and his hella deep voice. It’s like a warm cup of coffee on a cold day. It’s incredible.
Just listen to Samui singing live.
Lyricist
He writes and composes his own music, and he’s so, so talented. Here’s a small collection of some of his lyrics.
“I sat at an empty station all day, smoking a cigarette
All of today’s trains have gone by
I sat at an empty station all day long, humming
because you promised me you would come today”
Samui – Empty Station

“I can see it far away on the night sea,
a single, small speck of light
The beating of my heart
is like a small, swaying boat
It is always like that at night
White waves crash over me
I shout out, completely soaked,
at the silent moon
That’s how I am
That’s how I am”
Samui – Guess the night will come

I also really wanted to share this song and music video with you. The first time I was watching it, I thought it was a picture. It isn’t. So when he blinked I was kind of shocked. Regardless, this is one of my favorite songs by him. The instrumentals are incredible and his voice, as always is intense.
In April 2020 he released his first full album ‘Bad Joke’ so I’m sure there’s a lot of exciting things happening for him right now. I really recommend the song ‘Mirage’ because it’s dope.
Also the videos for ‘I’m Okay’ and ‘Life without Headache’ are really interesting.
The last song I want to share with you is ‘Spring Dream’ because this is the song that made me really sit down and absorb all of his music so I hope it has the same effect for you.
You can find Samui on Instagram here.
Here’s his Spotify Artist profile.
