Film Review: Love 911

‘Love 911’ is a Korean film from 2012. I stumbled upon the full film on YouTube and I thought why not.

The film is about a young doctor, Mi-Soo played by Han Hyo-Joo. At the start she misdiagnoses a woman and it puts her entire career on the line. The wrong diagnose comes after a mix of bad first impressions and wanting to impress her senior. It doesn’t turn out well and after talking to the hospital lawyer, she discovers that the only way to get her out of trouble is to get the fire fighter Kang-Il to sue the husband who is suing her.

It’s complicated, maybe even a bit unnecessarily so.

Kang-Il, played by Soo Go, is still reeling from the death of his wife and doesn’t want to sue the husband. So Mi-Soo pulls out all the stops to convince him.

This movie had me laughing and crying multiple times during its almost 2 hour runtime. The drama goes hand in hand with incredibly funny moments and it’s a perfect mixture.

I like the fact that Mi-Soo has a lot of ‘chutzpah’, she has guts and even though often she crosses the line with ridiculousness, it’s something to admire her for. Also the actress does an incredible job portraying her. So does Soo Go, and I loved the chemistry between the two of them.

What I also thought was great, was the fact that they’re not perfect. They’re not saints and they have their flaws and it makes them feel like more real people.

There was however an unresolved issue that I would have liked to see more of, but I can’t quite tell you which without spoiling some of its story line.

All in all, I would definitely recommend this film. It takes you on an emotional roller coaster but you get to see fantastic performances and if you’re like me, quite a few honest belly laughs.
