EP Review: Xydo – X

Xydo has blessed this day with his stunning vocals in his latest EP ‘X’ and we are here for it! It is his first solo EP.

Let’s dive straight into it!

X

The opening track is ‘M.U.S.E’. It’s a happy R&B track that blends a happy sounding instrumental with his soft high runs. The bridge with his voice almost sounding like a whisper, gave me chills.

With his ‘yeah’s’ we slide right into the second track ‘SNAPSHOT’. VIINI is a welcome feature and their voices work really well together. You have the beautiful vocal quality of Xydo and then the super low rapping by VIINI. If you don’t know VIINI please go listen to his song ‘Genie’.

#OOTD’ is up next. This time with a feature by Coogie. ‘OOTD’ stands for Outfit of the day and is frequently used on social media. ‘#OOTD’ is first of all, hella groovy. Secondly it has a really broad soundscape and that’s what makes it feel very dynamic. This song was previously released as a single.

Then we have the title track ‘BETTING’ featuring pH-1. It’s a funky, happy love song. As always pH-1’s feature is lovely and a great addition. Honestly, the song makes me just really happy. For the people who are single, join me in a pajama dance party in my bedroom!

Someone on Twitter translated the lyrics for us. Bless them.

Here’s the video.

With ‘HOLLOW’ we get the emotional whiplash I was kind of expecting at this point. You can find the translated lyrics here.

I’m in love with his vocal runs here. What a beautiful way to share pain. Please look at the lyrics, because WHEW. We’re going sad hours here. Also pay attention to the bass because it is going hard and pretty much drives the entire song.

The last track on ‘X’ is ‘Knight’ featuring MRSHLL. Holy moly, I was not ready for that opening. What a bluesy, jazzy sexy track. We’re talking R&B gold here. For the translated lyrics, click here. This might just be my favorite of all of these wonderful tracks.

Overall

Good god, what an amazing EP! ‘X’ has really solidified the R&B career Xydo is going for. What a fantastic piece of work!

The EP is not on Spotify yet, but we’ll update the article once it arrives.
