EP Review: Moonbyul – Dark Side of the Moon

Let’s forget about the Valentine’s day hype, and go back to what matters. Our QUEEN Mamamoo’s Moonbyul just released her EP, and let me tell you it is exactly what we waited for and more. Let’s start fangirling.

‘Dark Side of the Moon’ is the title for this extended play and ‘Eclipse’ kicks it off with Moon Byul’s killer rapping. This woman can rap, sing, dance, she is an all rounder and WE STAN. If you want proof of all of this check her MV. And be ready to fall in love.

‘Mirror’ comes next with heavenly vocals. This ballad gave me all the feels and I absolutely loved the low register singing in the track. It went straight to my heart.

Third on this release is ‘ILJIDO’, and this song is so chill. I loved the mix between lo-fi and electronic beats in the full track. It feels like the perfect song to listen to after a crazy day, because for sure it will soothe your heart.

We go old school hip-hop with ‘Moon Movie’. I cannot stress enough what an incredible rapper Moonbyul is. She delivers the lyrics flawlessly and on top of that she also blesses us with her singing in this track. Can it get any better?

‘Weird Day’ is next, featuring Punch, and this song needs to be added to the Sexy Grooves playlist on Spotify. I totally loved this duet, their voices compliment each other so well and the guitar accompaniment throughout the full track gives an indie vibe that I totally dig.

Finishing off ‘Dark Side of the Moon’, we have ‘Snow’, and Moonbyul’s soft voice in this is just beautiful, the back-up vocals were absolutely stunning. ‘Snow’ feels like the perfect closure for the masterpiece that this EP is. She originally released this track as her birthday gift.

If you want to find out more about Mamamoo’s members make sure to check out their episode of DisKovery with a K, we fangirl a LOT, but also we also talk about their music.
