EP Review: MONSTA X – FANTASIA X

My favorite MONSTA X babies are back with their new EP ‘FANTASIA X’. It was with a slight delay due to Shownu hurting his back, but they’re back after resting so let’s dive in!

FANTASIA X

We start the EP off with their title track ‘FANTASIA’. I’m absolutely in LOVE with this track because it is everything we love about their music, the hype, the earth shattering rapline, fantastic vocals and a bomb-ass choreo. This video screams luxury and I’m 100% here for it. Joohony and I.M. wrote the lyrics and I just have to say TALENT.

Next up is ‘FLOW’. The track is a solid BOP! There’s a big difference in pace between the verses and the chorus but it works and the fact that Joohoney worked on the lyrics, the composition and the arranging just makes it even more dear.

‘ZONE’ follows that with I.M. going off with his rap verse. This track goes hard and leaves no room to take a breath. It’s quintessential to MONSTA X’s style and it’s so, so COOL.

‘Chaotic’ comes in with a dope intro. The vocal line shines in ‘Chaotic’. Kihyun in the post-chorus gave me chills and when I.M. and Joohoney come in I got chills. This might just be my favorite track together with ‘FANTASIA’.

The fifth track on the EP is ‘Beautiful Night’ and Hyungwon’s opening is absolutely lovely! It’s the softest track on the EP so far and it reminds me of all their great B-sides. ‘Beautiful Night’ just makes me unbelievably happy.

‘IT AIN’T OVER’ is next. This track is groovy y’all. There are some really interesting things happening in the instrumentation and it is FUN! It kind of reminds me of a theremin, though I’m not 100% sure.

With ‘STAND UP’ we’re at the end of the EP. I love it when a song has some group chanting, this one being no different. The flute is a wonderful addition and the entire song is an anthem to the fans. Joohoney wrote this track while he in quarantine. So MONBEBES stand up and rise for our new National Anthem.

Overall

‘FANTASIA X’ is everything I wanted from MONSTA X and they delivered!! There’s not a bad song on the EP and I love it so much.
