EP Review: Lee Hae Ri – from h

Lee Hae Ri, one of the brilliant voices of DAVICHI has just released her latest solo EP ‘from h’. This is only her second solo EP, the first one ‘h’ was brought out into the world in 2017.

‘from h’

The first track on the EP is ‘Now’. The song is a beautiful ballad with gorgeous piano and Lee Hae Ri’s beautiful vocals. For some reason it feels incredibly warm and almost like a shoulder to lean on. Be sure to listen to the violin that’s playing in the background carefully, it’s lovely.

Up next is the title track, with accompanying music video ‘Just Cry’. Can I just say ‘my heart!!!!’ I legit had goosebumps listening to it for the first time.

Watch the music video because there’s one point where all the music trickles away and it’s just Lee Hae Ri’s voice with her playing the piano. My heart couldn’t take it. Random side note, I’ve kind of missed seeing the lonesome piano in the desert aesthetic. So I’m happy that’s back.

‘Thanks Letter’ comes right after and it’s a very synth heavy intro. According to peeps on Twitter, it’s a letter to the fans, so bless this wholesome song.

‘Awaiting’ brings back the piano. There’s a lyric video for ‘Awaiting’. It’s a song about an abandoned pet waiting for its family to come back. If you feel like you needed a cry today, watch it. And maybe hug your pet, give it some extra love.

The fifth song on ‘from h’ is ‘Where The Love Goes’. It feels a bit more powerful, with stronger vocals. The belting! It’s the kind of song that goes into your skin and completely overwhelms you for its duration.

The last song on this release is ‘Heartache’. Interesting little fact, I’ve been kind of listening to this when it came out with the MV four months ago.

The story line of the music video felt so fresh and new to me, that I’ve had it on replay. A couple that was about to break up, discovers that the apocalypse is coming in six hours, so instead of breaking up with each other they spend the rest of that time together.

Overall

So, my heart feels very full from listening to this. The entire EP ‘from h’ by Lee Hae Ri is filled with beautiful ballads as expected and I’m sure that some of the songs will strike a chord with you. So go support this Vocal Queen and listen to the entire thing.

(editor’s note: the EP isn’t on Spotify yet, but I’ll add the link as soon as it is on there)
