EP Review: CRAVITY – HIDEOUT: REMEMBER WHO WE ARE

CRAVITY, the new boy group under Starship Entertainment has just released their debut album: ‘HIDEOUT: REMEMBER WHO WE ARE – SEASON1.’ We’ve been anticipating them ever since the announcement came. Starship houses one of my all time favorites, MONSTA X.

Let’s dive in!

‘HIDEOUT: REMEMBER WHO WE ARE – SEASON1.’

The EP starts with the track ‘Top of the Chain’. It’s a perfect opener, I think. It’s strong, powerful, kind of in your face and that’s awesome. I love their little harmony on the ‘yeah’. There’s a certain grooviness to ‘Top of the Chain’ as well and that combined with the rapline that ate fire for breakfast apparently, is super cool.

Next up is their title track ‘BREAK ALL THE RULES’. Check out the MV.

It’s a really cool MV, giving the spotlight to each of the members so we can get a good look. The song itself is powerful, like the previous song. It has a really catchy hook and certainly displays the vocal line’s strength. I honestly can’t wait until they drop the dance practice video of this, because the choreo looks awesome, especially in that dance break. WOW!!

‘JUMPER’ is next. CRAVITY really doesn’t want us to take a breath, because it’s another banger. This is a perfect track to go crazy on the dance floor. I wonder if the rapline took notes from Jooheon from MONSTA X, because the growling reminds me so much of him. It’s cute. I looked it up and the track was written by Jooheon himself, so the entire track makes sense now.

‘Blackout’ has a more playful undertone because of the fun synths that remind me of video games. It’s a fun track with a very catchy chorus. But guys, the bridge!! Vocal Kings!

For the first time, we get a slower track on the EP. ‘Stay’ brings us into a more ballad feel. It’s still faster and more uplifting than the usual ballads we know. I’m not complaining though, I feel like it fits their style. I really dig the instrumentals used in the chorus, especially the electric guitar in the bridge.

Cloud 9’ is a summer bop! Catch me drinking cocktails and bopping to this song. It’s fun, playful and the first thing it reminded me of was those Pepsi commercials. It’s wholesome and warms my heart.

With ‘Star’ we finish off the EP. It’s one of their softer songs again, but still not quite a ballad. The instrumentals definitely keep the pace up. I almost wish they had used the softer instrumentals of the bridge throughout the entire song. I hope to hear an acoustic version of this track in the near future, because I think that’d be amazing.

Overall

The debut EP ‘HIDEOUT: REMEMBER WHO WE ARE’ by CRAVITY really brought out their talent. The amount of power was incredible and I’m sure their songs will be added to countless K-pop Fire playlists. I’m definitely looking forward to what they do next.
