Album Review: WINNER – Remember

WINNER just released their third album ‘Remember’, and after listening to it I’m in tears. I have seen this group grow and become who they are today, and I personally feel that this album symbolises the end of an era and the beginning of a new story.

‘Remember’

The album starts off with the title track ‘Remember’ and this song is emotional, beautiful and I can already tell that it left more than one “Innercircle” in tears. Hoony’s part gave me the chills, I could feel the sadness of the lyrics and as usual the vocal king Yoony delivered those high notes flawlessly. Check the music video and get your tissues out.

Dduk’ is next, and this one is Jinu’s solo. His soft and harmonious voice is something I will never get tired of listening to. The piano accompaniment throughout the song is majestic, and the back vocals made it extra emotional.

On a more lively note we have the pre-released track ‘Hold’, and I adore this song. It’s playful, fun to listen to and gives off that goofy side of Winner that made me fall in love with their music. Mino’s verses are fire, and the music video is adorable.

Following a similar upbeat and fun vibe we have ‘Just Dance’. This dance track is what’s needed to make your day more bright and happy. Nothing else needs to be said, just add it to your happy playlist.

My Bad’ kicks off with a lower tempo and nostalgic verses delivered by Mino. The progression and inclusion of instruments as the song develops is a gift for avid listeners that want to experience different layers in a track. I absolutely loved what they did with this song, it was refreshing and unexpected.

With a similar vibe the pop-ballad ‘Teaser’ starts with soft vocals and a low tempo. This one is followed by the mood lifter ‘Well’, even though both songs have a completely different styles I felt that they complemented each other. They both felt like goodbye tracks, the ones that are released before a hiatus or a break and they are sad but full of hope.

Next is Hoony’s solo ‘Serenade’ and this song felt like a throwback. It reminded me of their ‘Mix and Match’ times. Hoony kills it and I can totally picture him singing this one live, jumping and being the charismatic singer he is.

The last 4 tracks of this album are revamped new versions of classics by WINNER. ‘Empty’, ‘Don’t Flirt’, ‘Color Ring’ and ‘Different’. And if you are new to the “Innercircle” make sure to listen to all of them because they are fantastic and timeless songs that were originally part of the debut album ‘2014 S/S’ and made them who they are today.

Winner – Empty
Winner – Color ring

The last thing I have to say is that I cannot wait until they are back as 4 once more. Innercircle will be anxiously waiting for them and their music. In the meanwhile listen to this release.
