Album Review: SF9 – First Collection

SF9 is 9 member idol group featuring Youngbin, Inseong, Jaeyoon, Dawon, Zuho, Rowoon, Taeyang, Hwiyoung and Chani. They’ve been around since 2016 signed under FNC Entertainment and today they dropped their first album ‘First Collection’.

The album kicks off with the title track ‘Good Guy‘, a pop song with some electronic tracks. It’s super fun to listen to and the music video is full of visuals, so make sure to watch it.

Am I The Only One‘ is next and this song feels more like a ballad. The vocals are just breathtaking, I would love to see this one live. ‘Shh‘ is the third track and changes the mood completely with its funky rhythm and is probably one of my favourite ones in this release, a total bop!

Lullu Lalla‘  feels like a summer song and I loved the vibe of it. ‘One Love‘ is fifth on ‘First Collection’ and this one has an old gen idol group style that I thought was super cool.

Sixth on the list is ‘Like The Hands Held Tight‘ and this one should absolutely be an OST for a mystery drama, it has the right feel for it. It is an absolute gem, the vocals and rap are incredible, and the intro goes straight to the heart.

Fire‘ changes things up with a more pop, up-beat rhythm, and that gives way for the musical whiplash with ‘Stop It Now‘. The rap line absolutely killed it in this track, the full song has a more serious feel in it, and it got me emotional. The members did an incredible job delivering emotions through this song, total legends.

To lighten things up ‘Dance With Us‘ is next with a more playful beat that’s super fun to listen to on a summer day.

Last on the list is ‘Beautiful Light‘ and this song closes this album with a mix of rhythms. When the song starts off, it feels like a ballad but, that suddenly changes to a more upbeat style. It feels like a happy song, that I would totally listen to when I’m feeling a bit down.

This release of SF9 was a great surprise for me. I hadn’t listened to many of their releases but this 9 member idol group is full of talent and it was a total rollercoaster. The members did an amazing job delivering the emotions in the songs, and after this album I’m looking forward to hearing more from them.
