Album Review: ONF – Go Live

ONF is back with a new mini-album. They released the 5 track EP ‘Go Live’ and I love it so much I just had to write about it.

ONF currently consists out of six members; Hyojin, J-US, WYATT, E-Tion, MK and U. Laun left in August of this year. The reason why is still unsure and sits in a lot of mystery. It was all very sudden and the fans were quite distraught since no good explanation was given.

Nevertheless, ONF is back with 5 bops.

Why’ is the title track of the EP. They released their MV and dear god it’s amazing. Take a look for yourself. The colors, the acting, the special effects. I’m in love. I can see influences of ‘Inception’, ‘Iron Man’ and ‘The Matrix’.

The song itself is very dramatic and has an amazing build up. The squeaky synth (I think it’s a synthesizer, though I’m not 100% sure) is awesome and makes the hook easily recognizable.

Then we slide into the next song ‘Asteroid’. It’s a perfect, funky dance song. Though I kind of wish that the rapline got a couple more lines, because I feel like it would have added just that bit extra. Though that little ‘ha ha’ at 2:52 is like the cherry on top.

All Day’ is the third track on their EP. It kind of feels like an early 2000s soft pop song. The chanting gives it heart and makes me want to have a barbecue on the beach.

Number four on the list is ‘Moscow Moscow’. Frankly I’m the most in love with this song. It’s my favourite, because it’s so soft. There are jazzy undertones and every time they sing ‘Moscow’ I feel like I’m being seduced. The vocals in this one are amazing and they have so much control over their voice. The breathiness makes it fantastic. At one point the instrumentals almost completely fall away and it adds this extra level of tension. It’s superb.

To be honest, it’s kind of hard to describe ‘Twinkle Twinkle’, their last song. It has the lullaby lyrics and I feel like it’s meant to be a goofy, fun take on the children’s song. It has this happy-go-lucky vibe, that if you ever need a little pick-me-up, this is the song for you. It gives me the same feeling I get when I listen to Pentagon’s ‘Round 2’ or ‘Humph’.

Overall, a very lovely addition to ONF’s discography.

If you want to discover more, go follow them on Twitter or go check out their Spotify and listen to their EP.
