For this week’s actor spotlight, we are diving into the career of a model-turned actor, with an impressive list of dramas, and plenty of charisma. Let’s talk about Nam Joo-hyuk.
Nam Joo-hyuk started off his career as a model after winning the contest Top Model. He signed a contract with K Plus, and subsequently made his debut on the runway in 2013.
His first experience in front of the camera was for the AKMU music videos ‘200%’ and ‘Give Love’, but his official acting debut was in 2014 with a support role in the tvN drama ‘The Idle Mermaid’.
The following year Joo-hyuk landed his first main role in the KBS production ‘Who Are You: School 2015’, and with this role he won the Popularity Actor Award at the 2015 KBS Drama Awards.
2016 was the year were he started to gain more popularity, after his role in ‘Glamorous Temptation’, he landed a support role in the popular tvN production ‘Cheese In The Trap’, but he became well-known for his role on the historical drama ‘Moon Lovers: Scarlet Heart Ryeo’.
Lead Roles
2016 was also the year where Joo-hyuk got his second lead role in the popular drama ‘Weightlifting Fairy Kim Bok-Joo’. After his participation in this production he did not only win the Best New Actor award and the 2016 KBS Drama Awards, but also set himself for many upcoming lead roles.
In 2017, he became the lead for the fantasy tvN series ‘The Bride of Habaek’, and in the following year made his debut in the big screen in the historical film ‘The Great Battle’. His performance in the movie was highly praised and he also won the Best Actor award at the 2018 Blue Dragon Film Awards.
His next project was the 2019 JTBC drama ‘The Light in Your Eyes’, along with the actress Han Ji Min. Their chemistry on screen was incredible and in 2020 they both became the leads for the movie ‘Josee’.
Latest Projects
2020 was a big year for Nam Joo-hyuk, he not only participated in the movie but also became the lead for the Netflix production ‘The School Nurse Files’ and the very popular tvN drama ‘Start-Up’.
One of his latest projects was the ‘Twenty-Five Twenty-One’ along with well known actress Kim Tae-ri, and the film ‘Remember’.
