[Review] The School Nurse Files

The School Nurse Files’ also known as ‘School Nurse Ahn Eun-young’, is a 2020 production that hit the small screen this year on Netflix. And what makes this series so special is that it is a hit or miss, some will love it, others may find it a bit odd. Today we will be talking about this series, and just to let you know I loved it.

This drama is based on the hit novel ‘School Nurse Ahn Eun-young’ by Chung Serang released in 2015. The author took part in the screenplay along with the director Lee Kyoung-mi.

The Comedy/Quirkiness needed

Featuring Jung Yu-mi as Ahn Eun-young and Nam Joo-hyuk as Hong In-pyo, this drama tells the story of Eun-young, a school nurse who has been able to see a form of human desires called Jellies all of her life. These mystic creatures can take any form and can become monstrous and in some cases dangerous.

She works as a school nurse, and battles jellies to protect the students of the school. Her counterpart, In-pyo is a Chinese language teacher who is the grandson of the founder of the school. He has a special energy around him which makes him immune to the jellies’ influence.

With the touch of his hand, Eun-young gains marvellous energy which helps her combat the jellies when they have turned into monsters. This pair throughout the series, fight to save the students of this school from the mystic creatures and developed what I found a very interesting and kinda cute friendship.

They both find themselves in the most unbelievable situations in which mostly she has to battle the jellies while he is dragged around and put in dangerous situations that he has no idea how to battle.

With fantastic animation and some crazy imagination this drama takes the viewers through a fantasy world that is fascinating, oddly interesting and addictive.

Despite the initial shock of the storyline and the jellies, this drama had some incredible acting. Yu-mi’s facial expressions were fascinating, absolutely on point and had that dumbfounded look that we would probably have if anyone were in her situation.

The students in the drama had some fascinating roles, when the jellies possessed them they would definitely show incredible acting, facial expression and somehow a lot of sweat (mini-spoiler).

Final Thoughts

School Nurse Ahn Eun-young’ was a refreshing drama that took me out of my comfort zone, and I thoroughly enjoyed how this drama was fun to watch and addictive.

It is available on Netflix, you can check the trailer below. And for those who are doubting watching it, I would highly recommend giving the storyline a shot with the first two episodes, I am sure more than one will be hooked with its quirkiness, comedy and lovable characters.
