[Review] 301, 302

We’re back with a new film review and this time we’re going back to 1995 with the Korean film ‘301, 302’.

In this film written by Lee Suh-Goon and directed by Park Cheol-su, we follow our two protaganists Song and Yoon, two women who live right across the hall from each other. Song (Pang Eun-Jin) just moved in and really wants to get to know her introverted neighbour Yoon (Hwang Sin-hye). She keeps giving Yoon a share of her dinner, in the hopes to connect and also for revenge, however after Yoon opens up about her anorexia they form an undeniable bond.

‘301, 302’ is such an interesting watch! It’s beautifully shot, the set design was quite frankly amazing and honestly this would be a great theatre production.

Even now, this film feels very contemporary because of its exploration between love and food.

Divorcee Song is desperate for love so she keeps feeding everyone around her. While Yoon feels like she doesn’t deserve any of it due to past trauma, hence her anorexia.

Interesting fact, they actually created an American version of this in 2013 with ‘Compulsion‘, starring Heather Graham and Carrie-Anne Moss.

You can watch this film for free on YouTube on the Korean Classic Film account.
