[Review] V8 – V8

We’re getting a brand new sub-unit from SEVENTEEN with V8 and their self-titled debut album. It’s a cute mash-up of Vernon and The8 who are teaming up for this one.

V8

We’re starting off with ‘Friend’ where they look back on their past 10 years as buddies on an electro track with crazy synths and a cool progression.

Next up is ‘BEAT’. We’re sticking on the electronica side of things with this one. I love the instrumental post-chorus. However I do find it a shame that it’s such a short track.

‘singasong’ is their title track and I had to listen to this a couple of times because this gave me the equivalent of a sugar rush.

This is a wild, electronic hyper-pop track that has a catchy hook and will probably wreck the speakers in my car from blasting it too loud.

After that comes ‘mia’, which is Vernon’s solo track. I absolutely loved seeing Kirara in the credits of this one. “The track, a tangle of raw, natural sources and distortion sources, represents the friendship forged by friends with completely different personalities.”

‘Coloring’ leans more into the hip-hop side with a lot of cool layers in the instrumentals. The progression of this is really nice and I just really love the combination of Korean, and Chinese lyrics. It’s just so cool to hear.

‘girlsnboys’ is such a vibe! Pharrell Williams is in the credits of this one. The chorus is so groovy!

Next up is ‘8DM’ and is a The8 solo. The track name is also wordplay from mixing The8 with EDM. “The track evokes the lights of a Berlin club seen during the production process, featuring an immersive intro, a drop section where tension reaches its peak, and a kick bass that bursts forth at that moment, delivering an intense sense of liberation.”

We’re closing off with ‘rat race’ which is an electro hyper pop track. This is one of my personal favorites of the album. The chorus is just so good and this kind of feels like a throwback to the 2000s where we had EDM music with surprisingly deep lyrics.

Go ahead and listen to ‘V8’ on Spotify here.
