For this edition of OffStage, we are spotlighting a production company that has quietly built an impressive portfolio while working behind some of the industry’s biggest productions. Let’s talk about Gulliver Studios.
Founded in 2019, Gulliver Studios has consistently delivered high-quality productions and established itself as one of the leading VFX studios in the Korean entertainment industry. While the company is now recognized for its work on critically acclaimed dramas and films, its early years were focused primarily on producing promotional content for brands before eventually expanding into television and cinema.
Among the studio’s earlier projects were the ‘The Cursed’ and ‘Stranger 2’ dramas in 2020. That same year, the company also contributed to the films ‘The Medium’ and ‘The Yin-Yang Master: Dream of Eternity’, continuing to expand its growing portfolio across multiple genres and markets.
With an already impressive résumé in hand, the studio only continued to grow. In 2021, Gulliver Studios worked on the internationally acclaimed ‘Squid Game’ for Netflix. Thanks to its contribution to the series, Gulliver Studios became the first Asian VFX studio to win an Emmy Award in the category of Outstanding Special Visual Effects, a major milestone not only for the company, but also for the Asian VFX industry as a whole.
Following this recognition, the number and scale of productions involving the studio increased significantly. Over the past few years, Gulliver Studios has contributed to projects such as ‘The Trunk’, ‘The 8 Show’, and ‘Citizen of a Kind’, among many others.
