In this edition of our OffStage, we want to dive into the work of a Visual Director who has been behind some truly epic concepts for K-pop groups. Let’s take a closer look at the creative work of Roh Sangyoon.
Sangyoon is currently signed to the creative agency NEWYEAR, and his work is known for its nostalgic feel, distinctive concept planning, and strong visual identity. His productions often stand out through their use of color, shapes, composition, and carefully crafted scenery.
According to the works listed on NEWYEAR’s website, one of his earliest projects was with SM Entertainment in 2017. His portfolio includes the ‘Poetic Beauty: JAEHYUN‘ film, NCT 2018’s ‘Yearbook #1‘, the music video for NCT 127’s Japanese single ‘Chain‘, and WayV’s debut trailer ‘See The V’.
During his early career, he also worked with THE BOYZ on their ‘NO AIR‘ film, as well as the ‘Maverick’ comeback trailers and several other productions.
One of his most recognizable projects came with IVE, where he was part of the creative team behind the group’s debut-era concept. The visual direction helped establish a strong identity for IVE from the very beginning, creating a memorable foundation for their successful career.
With an already impressive portfolio, Sangyoon expanded his work even further with the music video for ‘VIBE‘ by K-pop legend TAEYANG, featuring none other than Jimin of BTS. The production added another major project to his growing list of collaborations with some of the biggest names in K-pop.
More recently, he has added MEOVV’s ‘TOXIC‘ and ALLDAY PROJECT’s ‘ONE MORE TIME‘ music videos to his portfolio, alongside photography work for IDID’s ‘FLY!’ album.
