IU, our lovely vocal queen, is back with ‘A flower bookmark, Pt.3’. This is a mini-album where she does remakes of old songs she’s loved.
We open with ‘Red Sneakers’. This was released in 2002 by Park Hye-Kyung. One of our favorite pianists Lee Jin Ah added some magic on the arrangement.
The title track of this release is ‘Never Ending Story’ which was originally released in 2002 by the iconic rock band Boohwal.
‘October 4th’ was originally released by Seo Taiji. I love how dreamy this track has become. I’m loving the new arrangement and IU’s vocals are just so pretty here.
Wonstein is a feature on the track ‘Last Scene‘ which was originally by the band Roller Coaster. This was released on their 2002 album ‘Absolute’. Sumin and Slom helped with the arrangement and created a very fresh feel.
Shin Jung Hyun & Yup Juns released their track ‘A Beautiful Person’ in the seventies. This time IU and Balming Tiger reworked it for this album. I love the funky synth in the instrumentation and the guitars.
The closing track is ‘Square’s Dream’ which is originally by White from 1996. It sounds like a fun playful song but it actually a commentary on uniformity.
I absolutely adore how she’s breathing new life into old songs.
