JIN finally released his solo EP ‘HAPPY’ and we’re super happy about it (pun intended). With his pre-release we were already stoked and super curious to see his music direction. Let’s dive right in!
HAPPY
We start off with ‘Running Wild’. The title track of this album is a pop rock moment inspired by British rock with a new wave sound. We’re running breathlessly towards hope according to the album description. I love that we’re getting a bit of Jin’s lower register on this one. This is a stunning track that leaves you feeling positive.
Gary Barlow of popular British boy band Take That participated in producing the track.
‘I’ll Be There’ was the pre-release track which had us all partying along.
Next up is ‘Another Level’. We’re going alternative rock for this one. I love the guitars here, especially the shredding during the outro. The song feels too big for my laptop, I feel like I need a big boombox to do the track credit and listen to each and every note.
‘Falling’ starts with a whistle. Taka and Toru of the Japanese rock group ONE OK ROCK participated in this one. Toru plays the guitar in the instrumentals himself. The modern rock song contains the feelings of love according to the album description.
‘Heart on the Window’ is a collab track with none other than the vocal queen herself, Wendy of Red Velvet. I love this collaboration. Their vocals blend so well and create such a stunning pop track.
We’re closing off with the track ‘I will come to you’. This is a letter to the fans Jin wrote himself. The ballad stays simple with the instrumentation. It’s solely a piano and Jin’s vocals which creates an intimate ambience where you can feel his true love. Honestly, a stunning track that got me choked up a little.
