Our boy Jin from BTS is back with his latest solo project ‘Echo’. This comes about a half year after his solo debut ‘Happy‘. In the album description they wrote: “‘Echo’ delivers more honest and deeper empathy. You and me and us, love and friendship, and even the crossroads of choices we face in everyday life. Jin expressed various moments of life through music.”
Echo
We start off with the title track ‘Don’t say you love me’. This is a very pretty pop track in English. I am obsessed with the high falsetto in the vocal layering. It’s crazy impressive and I love it.
‘Nothing without your love’ is a Brit rock track, which is very up Jin’s alley. His vocals shine in this one and I really enjoyed the overall progression. The strings are lovely and addd so much dimension and depth to the song.
Next up is ‘Loser’ featuring YENA. This is such a fun and unexpected collab! It’s a pop punk track with a fun and chaotic energy.
‘Rope it’ is a highly expected track ever since I heard the teaser and I’m sure I’m joining a big chunk of the fandom with that sentiment. We’re going country with this one and it’s so much fun! It’s hopeful, positive and brings an instant smile to your face. The chorus is super catchy and I am dying to watch the choreo pop off on TikTok with cute outfits.
‘With the clouds’ is a J-rock inspired track and has an absolutely insane instrumental part. I wish they had brought it back more or let it go for a bit longer to get the full effect.
Next up is ‘Background’. We’re getting a pop ballad with this one and we’re going through a rough break-up. I love the emotive strength of Jin’s vocals, so this was a lovely listen.
The EP closes off with ‘To Me, Today’. This is an 80s alt rock track and has fun guitars, a playful momentum and feels very comforting.
