DAY6 has blessed us again with a new album. ‘The Book of Us: Entropy’ was released yesterday and I’ve been playing it over and over because it’s just so damn good.
First of all, I had to google the word ‘entropy’ because I had no idea what it meant. According to the dictionary entropy means a lack of order and predictability and a gradual decline into disorder.
It pretty much hits the nail on its head. All of the songs have different vibes and genres. It’s incredible. The only prediction I could make before I listened to it is that there would be no bad song. I was right about that.
Let’s go over the songs on the album.
The first track is ‘Deep in love’ feels like an eighties rock song because of that sweet, sweet intro. Also there’s a super short guitar solo that is fire. I love the fact that they’re all chanting together for the chorus. ‘Deep in love’ indeed.
‘Sweet Chaos’ is their title track. It has the typical DAY6 sound. The synth going on in the background is fantastic. When you watch the music video, make sure to turn the captions on so you can read the lyrics. Everyone say ‘thank you, Young K’.
The third track ‘EMERGENCY’ is absolutely bonkers. I’ve no idea what is going. There are so many tempo changes and different instruments used I’m getting music whiplash (I don’t know if that is a legit thing or not. If it isn’t I’m making it one).
‘Rescue Me’ is heavy rock. There’s no doubt about it. It’s angsty, the guitar is going crazy and I’m sure once I can find English translations of the lyrics, they’re going to be nice and dark.
After ‘Rescue Me’ we have such a soft, almost poppy opening to ‘365247’ I wasn’t sure if I was still listening to the same album. Dowoon has lines! For some reason when he starts singing it’s getting a bit of a Latin vibe, though I’ve no clue why.
‘About Now’ kind of reminds me of the vibe most Joji songs have. It’s a lot calmer than the previous tracks and it almost feels like an interlude. I think there’s some xylophone in the background, which is not something you hear everyday.
The seventh track on the album is ‘OUCH’. I can’t unhear the ‘AYAYAYAYAYA you’re my BANANANANA’. It’s a fun, light pop song. And now I desperately want a pina colada on the beach.
Next up is ‘Not Fine’. All I can say is I’m not fine after hearing this. Im getting all emotional.
‘Stop Talking’ is the ninth number on the album. Young K is rapping, I’ve missed it. The electric guitar solo is fire and I want to see it in action live. It’s an amazing track and that little outro is super cute.
‘Not Mine’ is so dramatic, I’m living for it. The strings, the guitar, the vocals. The moment they’re singing ‘I’m drowning in you’ I got chills.
The last track of the album ‘The Book of Us: Entropy’ is ‘Like a flowing wind’ starts off slow but then hits in like a sledgehammer with its classic DAY6 sound. Also Wonpil, honey, I hear you with that falsetto. What a way to end the album.
Overall this is an amazing album. Each song is so different and unique there’s something for every emotion you’re going through. And if you’re going through all of them, just listen to the full album and it’s got you covered.
I cannot tell you how much I love this.
DAY6 never disappoints.
